| iBanned from the festival of video festivals by Courtney Love. Never seen. In groups, looped drawings scroll over themselves. As if filmed by a cameraman on acid succeeding his first travelling. Looping is a black and white animation, a psychedelic, unidirectional travelling cotège, multi axial as fascinating as labyrinthine. An infinate stroll, an extraordinary visual feat. In no order or hierarchy, following one another, punks with rebellious mohicans, gentle asexual perverts, wandering fingers, a hen stuck in cunnilingus, a bearded man shoved in jumping cowboy boots, a sniffed at line drawing a new horizon etc. A story of possession that jumps at the throat. Banned for two years Looping finally comes out on DVD, like a journey from nowhere. And that is always good. The drawings are incredible, their realism poignant. The loop well known in this adventure works like a magnificant lesson in manipulation. Take part in the game. The kind artist myth belongs to the last century. Here one falls for Rolexs and gets high on Uranium. And when one learns that all this is inspired by "faits divers", these visual resemblances become irresistably amusing and totally alarming. What always sleeps standing up with a finger in it's ear? The thing from another world is now in your hands. The pure diamond will not leave you. Michel Vaillant |
